Q: When may I take my new puppy to parks or to socialize with other puppies or animals?
A: It is strongly recommended that you wait untill your puppy has been thru their complete series of vacinations. Your veterinarian or clinic can also let you know when your puppy is safe to begin outside social activities.

Q: How long should a puppy remain on puppy food?
A: As a general rule, all puppies should be offered a good high quality puppy food for at least the first year.

Q: Are non-stick pans harmfull to use if I house birds for pets?
A: Some non-stick cookware that is coated with teflon or ptfe can release fumes when heated to high tempatures. These fumes can be harmfull or even fatal to a birds respritory system. When housing birds, it is best to not keep them near your kitchen and refrain from using pans treated with non-stick surfaces.

Q: Our pet rabbit is not eating, is he sick?
A: If your pet rabbit has not eaten for a couple of days, it is possible that it could have some sort of gastroinestsinal problem. You should have him checked out as soon as possible by a veterinarian who has experience with small animals.

Q: Does my bearded dragon need UV lighting?
A: YES! Many reptiles including bearded dragons need UV light in order to process the vitamin D in their diet into a useable form. Without this process, metabolic bone disease many times will occur.

Q: Do hamsters bite, and do they make a good first pet for a small child?
A: All small animals or rodents including hamsters can bite. If you are looking for a pet for a small child, you may want to use caution. You may want to consider something like a rabbit, guniea pig, or rat (yes a rat).

Q: I have just added water to my new aquarium. How long do I need to wait before adding fish?
A: You need to wait untill your water has completed a nitrogen cycle. You will first want to add some type of biological booster such as stability or bio-zyme. Begin testing your water after a couple of days. First you will see an increase in ammonia. As the ammonia decreases, nitrite will increase. The final stage will see a decrease in nitrite and an increase in nitrate. When this cycle is complete. it is ok to begin adding fish a few at a time, starting with hardy species first.

Q: At what tempature should I keep my freshwater aquarium?
A: It is best to keep your tropical fish aquarium at about 78 degrees. This will help prevent outbreaks of parasites such as ick that do not thrive in warmer tempatures.

Q: Is it more difficult to set up and maintain a saltwater aquarium vs freshwater?
A: This question can have many different answers. It actually depends on several different factors. If you are wanting do set up a simple system, it can be quite easy with about the same amount of maintanence. If you are wanting to set up a complete reef system, it can be a little more difficult in the beginning, but very rewarding in the end. Please contact us for more specific information.

Q: Can I put tropical fish in the same aquarium as my african cichlids?
A: As a general rule, the answer will be no. Not only are cichlids aggressive, they require different water chemistry such as ph levels.
